The Ujiko Search Engine |

Kartoo presents new exciting version of UjikoLast year French Kartoo presented its experimental search service Ujiko, with a new advanced user interface for Yahoo's search engine index. By Lars Våge, Internetbrus There is now a new version of Ujiko available, which looks like a oval game console. In the middle of the console you will find a circle displaying relevant information, like - for instance - color-coded suggestions for alternative search queries.
Innovative interfaceThe search results are displayed to the right and left of the central circular field and are sorted according to themes. If you move the cursor over one of the listings, Ujiko will present information on the site as well as a small picture or thumbshot of the relevant web page. Immproved relevanceIn order to remove irrelevant results you first click on the document icon beside the listing, then on the trash bin in the central circle. At the very centre of the circle Ujiko presents additional keyword phrases. If you click on one of these, Ujiko will add the phrase to your present query, thus focusing your search and reducing the number of hits. Fun and gamesEach time you click on a search engine result listing in the new version of Ujiko, you get a point. These so-called experience points follow the paradigm of computer games. Down to the left you can see what "level" you are on. After 10 clicks or points a new function will appear. This progress is marked by an animation in the green glowing circle signifying the number of points. The premium for the first level is the possibility to change the appearance of the search engine display (adding a new "skin"). After reaching level 2 you can send your search results by email. Level 3 adds a new button leading to a listing of your latest search queries and so on. All in all there are five such levels. I haven't reached them all yet, but will continue trying!
