New discussion search engine from Lycos

(August 27 2004) Lycos has launched a new a discussion forum search engine.

discussion forumThe new service -- which is in its beta test stage -- allows you to "search and retrieve information from millions of discussion threads and conversations taking place on the World Wide Web." Anyway, that is what Lycos says in its help pages.

This seems to be some kind of metasearch engine that combines data from several search engines and then filters out information from discussion boards and online forums.

Blogs are not included. However, from time to time the search engine may deliver links to regular "non-forum" web pages, including blog pages.

At the moment there is no advanced search form, but according to Lycos they are working on one.

You may limit your searches to Yahoo groups MSN Groups or .org sites. Moreover, below every regular search result listing there is a link that lets you narrow your search to that particular forum, like for instance Webmaster World or the Search Engine Watch forums.

We believe this can become a very useful addition to our search engine arsenal. The best discussion groups are very problem oriented, and may often provide a solution to your particular problem.

Moreover, they include references to other valuable resources on the Net, and may help you along, when the regular search engines fail to provide relevant information.

The service does not cover old-fashioned newsgroups, i.e. discussion forums outside the World Wide Web, but one can always use the Google Groups search engine for those Usenet-based forums.

By the way, Lycos has also launched a new People Search Metasearch engine at the old WhoWhere domain.
