Directory of Open Access Journals now has freetext searching

By Lars Våge

The University of Lund in Sweden is making a web catalog of free electronic periodicals and their project is now entering its second phase.

Directory of Open Access Journals no longer only catalogues the periodical by subject, it is now also possible to search the text of the article.

Even though ”only” 270 of the 1100 periodicals in the directory are indexed right now, that still makes 46 000 articles to search in! And these are academic/scientific periodicals.

DOAJ is an important search service for the Open Access movement, which has a growing significance among researchers.

Furthermore, DOAJ is a brilliant example of the new, specialized search services that are becoming increasingly important to know if you want to bring your search further than Google.

Well done, Sweden!
