New Yahoo! shortcutsYahoo! adds new shortcuts to its search engine syntax and lets you search dictionaries, airport information and more. (April 25 2004) The fact that Yahoo! has abandoned the AltaVista and AlltheWeb search engines means that searchers have lost many of the search tools and search syntaxes found at these sites. By all means, the sites are still there, but they are now powered by the Yahoo! search engine, and this search engine does not always support the same operators and shortcuts. It should be remembered, though, that Yahoo! has actually taken over engineers and researchers from these two search engines as well as the Inktomi search engines. They are not going to waste all this talent. Indeed, Yahoo! is -- like Google -- constantly adding new tools and features to its search arsenal, and as Gary Price has reported, there are now quite a few new handy shortcuts available. You use shortcuts by adding a special keyword to your search query. This keyword will limit your search to a higly targeted database or service. Here are the the current shortcuts (example search queries in italics)
