Upcoming search engine conferences and workshops

(August 17 2003) Are you looking for the latest on the SE scene, itching to meet colleagues and competition or do you simply need some inspiration? Why not check out some search engine conferences and workshops?

Here are some conferences taking place in the next few months:

Pubconference V in London September 20th

Pubconference logo WebmasterWorld., one of the most influential forum for search engine optimizers and Internet marketers, will arrange the fifth so-called "Pubconference" at the famous Cittie of Yorke pub in London on September the 20th.

More than 300 Webmasters and Internet search and marketing experts from around the world will gather to discuss the latest issues, technologies and developments and to meet delegates from the major search services including Google and Yahoo!

The event will feature representatives and exhibitors from over 20 industry companies.

“One of the unique aspects of Pubconference is this opportunity for face-to-face discussions with the major search services, suppliers of technology and, of course, to discuss current issues with Internet specialists and more than 300 of their peers,” says Brett Tabke, WebmasterWorld’s owner and conference organizer.

It was actually the Pandia team that came up with the term "pubconference". (Yes, it's true, ask Brett if you don't believe us) The original idea was to get away form the boring conference auditoriums and get right down to the important stuff: the networking.

Pandia will take part this year as well. Maybe we can meet for a pint?

Search Engine Strategies Conference

Danny Sullivan is probably the most well known and respected search engine expert around today, which makes his Search Engine Strategies Conferences all the more important.

The latest conference is taking place shortly, on August 18 to 21 in San Jose, California.

Among the keynote speakers are no other than Sergey Brin, cofounder of Google and Jeff Weiner, senior vice president of Search and Marketplace, in Yahoo! Danny will, of course, also make a presentation.

The fact that people like Brin and Weiner find it useful to attend, says a lot about the status of these events.

Among the themes of the conference are "writing for the search engines", "search engine friendly design" and "search term research".

There will be another Search Engine Strategies conference in Munich (München) in Germany on November 10. and 11. However, that one requires more than a superficial knowledge of German, so English-speaking Europeans will probably wait for the next conference in London in 2004.

Search Engine Workshops

Web Search University

The Web Search University will arrange a new conference in Washington D.C. on September 8 and 9.

As the name implies this conference's main focus is on searching, not search engine optimization. Still there is one session on optimization held by Chris Sherman, co-editor of Search Engine Watch.

Among the other sessions we would like to mention:

  • Teaching Web Search Skills by Greg Notess
  • Quality Business Searching, by Marydee Ojala
  • Expanding your research toolkit, by Mary Ellen Bates

Actually, the conference fee includes a party sponsored by Google!
