Search Engine Marketing Pub Conference |

Search Engine Pub Conference returns to London(July 15 2002) Search Engine optimization experts meet in London in October for another collective brainstorming. Regular readers of Pandia will have seen our reports from the two previous pub and bar conferences, in London, UK, and Irvine, California respectively. In many ways the pub conference concept represents a radical innovation, as it does away with the regular conference agenda with all the speeches and PowerPoint presentation, and goes right down to the real meat of any meeting for professionals: the socializing and the networking. This is the place where search engine marketers can exchange techniques with fellow colleagues and get the search engine representatives to tell all the things they cannot print in their press releases. Although the Webmaster World discussion forum was not the official host of the previous two events, it has never been a secret that they have been arranged by Webmaster World moderators and enthusiasts. This time, however, Webmaster World leader and SEO guru Brett Tabke is heavily involved, and the London conference of October 12th 2002 is officially hosted by Webmaster World. "The most attractive thing about conferences is meeting people in our industry and this often takes place at the hotel, restaurant or pub after the event," Tabke says. "Those meetings often are referred to as 'the conference after the conference' and often end up being the most rewarding aspect of the entire event. Many of our members are speakers at other conferences or are advanced enough to hold sessions themselves. It just seemed foolish to spent a huge amount of money and sit through a long speech, just for the bar afterwards." That being said, there were some complaints that the previous bar conference was a bit too unstructured. This year there will be several "round table" discussions dealing with topics from acquiring traffic to converting traffic. Hence even the most timid of the attendees will get a chance to get connected to this creative stream of consciousness.
"The pub has been there for five centuries and looks like it's straight out of Lord of The Rings with its high vaulted ceilings and giant thousand gallon casks," says Tabke. Last year's event proved the inn to be the perfect environment for hands-on discussions and meetings with search engine services and webmasters. The main problem was that many participants -- the Pandia delegation included -- forgot to get something to eat. As with a conference of this nature, the subject matter tends to be very up-to-the minute. However, likely hot subjects include doing business online and making money, affiliate programs, search engine alliances, and with an international audience, country-specific search services and cross-border and multi-language business on the Internet. Pubcon is supported by search services including Fast Search & Transfer (alltheweb.com), Overture and Inktomi. Special guests include Danny Sullivan, world famous SEO expert and editor of Search Engine Watch, and -- are we proud to say -- the editors of Pandia. Additionally, many of WebmasterWorld's moderators and senior members will be on hand to offer their experienced perspective on the future of the Internet.
