New search engine conferences and workshops

(June 21 2002, update June 23, July 3 and July 16) You can learn a lot by surfing the Net, reading the news and taking part in online discussions.

Still, on a search engine conference you may discuss the nitty gritty of searching and marketing with people who are just as enthusiastic about search engines as you are; you will get valuable contacts, the latest buzz, and the search engine representatives will tell you all the amazing secrets they never print in their news releases.

Here are some of the search engine conferences you may visit in the coming months:

Search Engine Workshop, Denver, Colorado

Search engine optimization experts Robin Nobles and John Alexander will arrange another 3-day SEO workshop in Denver, Colorado, on July 29 to 31 2002.

Noble and Alexander will give introductions to topics like search phrase research, writing for search engine robots, search engine submission, building content rich gateway information pages, the use of various SEO tools and more.

The fee includes private consultations. Upon successfully completing this 3-day program, participants will be examined and awarded a "certification of skills" in Search Engine Optimization and Marketing.

Search Engine Strategies 2002 California and Germany

Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Watch regularly arranges conferences on search engines and search engine marketing on both sides of the Atlantic.

Search Engine Strategies 2002 features presentations and panel discussions that cover all aspects of search engine-related promotion. You'll learn how search engines interact with your Web site and ways to improve your listings.

The next conference is in San Jose, California, August 12 to 14 2002. Among the topics covered are buying paid listings, selecting a search engine marketing firm, writing for search engines, managing paid placement listings, running your own enterprise search engine, and successful site architecture.

Europeans should not feel left out. There is to be a conference in Munich, Bavaria, on October 17 and 18. The program will be ready shortly.

WebBuilder 2002, September 9 to 11, Las Vegas

The WebBuilder conference is on Web site design and management in the widest sense of the word. Still, there are also sessions devoted to search engines and optimization, including talks on search friendly site architecture and low-cost lead generation through search engine marketing by SEO expert Barbara Coll from WebMama.com.

The next London Pubconference

Brett Tabke of Webmaster World has announced Pubconference 2, a web marketing and promotion event to be held in London on October 12 2002.

Pandia gives a full presentation in a separate news article.

Websearch University, Washington D.C.

While the conferences above focus on search engine optimization and marketing, the next is devoted to searching.

The WebSearch University on September 23 and 24 in Washington D.C. gathers many of the World's top searchers for courses in online information retrieval.

Among the experts present are Greg Notess, Reva Basch, Mary Ellen Bates, Chris Sherman and Pandia award winner Alan Schlein.

There are introductions to power Web searching, search engine technologies, the invisible Web, Web market research tools, business research tactics, news resources and more.

There will be another conference on October 22-23, 2002, in O'Hare, Chicago.
