Upcoming search engine optimization conferences

toolsPandia takes a look at upcoming search engine optimization and marketing conferences in Europe and the US.

October 21 2001, update Noivember 5 2001

One of the main objectives of the recent terrorist attacks has been to instill fear in us all. In some respects its working. Several airliners are in deep economic trouble, and hotels and conference centers are reporting a serious downturn in the number of visitors.

By stopping employees from travelling companies are actually helping the terrorists achieve their goals. One important way of contributing to the war against terrorism is to continue our lives, to work and build and show them how much we appreciate our freedom.

And the fact remains, of course, that the chances your air flight ending in an accident is close to zero. Your car ride to the airport is actually much more dangerous.

Now, some would probably argue that people involved in Internet searching and search engine optimization do not need conferences and meetings. After all, they spend their lives on the Net, communicating with some of the most advanced technologies ever. The fact remains, however, that nothing can replace face-to-face meetings, the building of friendships and a chat over a good meal.

Pandia will continue to report on relevant meeting places for people interested in search engines, online searching and marketing, and if you are responsible for such an event, please let us know.

Search Engine Strategies Conference, Dallas, USA, November 14 and 15

Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Watch and Internet.com regularly arranges conferences on search engine strategies. The next conference is in Dallas, on November 14 and 15 2001, will feature presentations and panel discussions covering all aspects of search engine related promotion.

Search Engines Strategies Conference 2001 logoThe first day of Search Engine Strategies 2001 is "Promotion Day," designed to teach you the ins-and-outs of search engine marketing from top experts in the field, along with information from the search engines themselves.

The next day is focusing on more specialized issues, including legal matters, paid inclusion and submission, how new web design technologies may affect your search engine rankings, how to select an SEO provider, cloaking, doorway pages and more.

Among the participants are Detlev Johnson of the I-Search mailing list and Heather Lloyd-Martin and Jill Whalen of the Rank Write Roundtable. There are also representatives from search engines like AltaVista, Inktomi, Ask Jeeves and Fast.

Search Engine Strategies Conference, Copenhagen, Denmark, December 12

While the American Search Engine Strategies Conference is a two days affair, the European version is more concentrated.

On December 12 Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Watch and Detlev Johnson, moderator of I-Search, will lead the participants through a day filled with information on search engine promotion and search engine traffic.

One important reason for taking part in conferences like these, is the fact that you can meet people from the search engines themselves. Some years ago they were very secretive, indeed. Now, however, they are all trying to woo Webmasters in order to get customers to their various pay-per-click and paid inclusion services.

Moreover, the rise of Google demonstrates how a good reputation among "heavy" Internet searchers and webmasters may lead to success.

In Denmark representatives from Google, Overture, LookSmart, and Jubii.dk will discuss submission issues and take questions.

In a separate workshop experts will talk about the latest legal issues regarding search engines and marketing in Europe, and participants can discuss how to deliver concentrated content to spiders for indexing and how to avoid spamming. There is also a session on how to analyze traffic.

Internet Marketing Conference, Berlin, Germany, November 13 - 15

The Berlin Internet Marketing Conference covers much more than search engines and optimization. There are, however, several sessions that cover our field of interest, including information on the Open Directory Project and search engine submissions.
