Testing Search Explorer, a clustering Google hack
Pandia has tested a new search technology that clusters Google search results. It is called Google Hack: Search Explorer and is currently under development.
A working version is online for anyone that feels that Google could be doing a better job presenting their search results.
Google Hack: Search Explorer is a modification, an improvement, of the standard Google user interface. The man behind this new technology, Roman Kvasnay, explains: “It provides an effective search query management system, and it gives you more options than plain Google.”
Search query management
His main idea main is what he calls search query management: The Google search results are clustered.
Along with the list of search results we are all so familiar with, Google Hack: Search Explorer presents a list of related keywords and gives you an option to include or exclude any of these keywords without performing another search. You include or exclude clusters with one click.
The clusters are produced in real time using your search query data, not preset word lists.
Natural language search
Another feature of the Google Hack: Search Explorer is that you can choose to ask a question in stead of using keyword(s) as a search query. The aim is to produce a correct answer to a user’s question, such as “How to get to?”, “Where is?”, “Where to buy?” and so on.
At the moment, "The backbone of such system is a self-learning knowledge-base driven system which can generate queries to search the database," Roman Kvasnay explains. The current live version of the project represents what he calls an engine of type 1. They are currently in the process of creating a type 2 engine, using Artificial Intelligence. Google Hack: Search Explorer is a non-profit educational project aiming to build an ideal Search Engine User Interface. Try Google Hack: Search Explorer yourself.
