Sputtr gives you one single interface to a large number of search engines
Sputtr gives you easy access to a large number of search tools via one search field.
Many stick to one search engine, using the one found in the web browser search field, the favorite toolbar or the URL they are most likely to remember (most likely google.com).
However, there are a large number of other search engines and search tools out there, and in spite of what people believe, search engine databases do not contain the exact same web pages.
Sputtr has made it easier for web searchers to find and make use of alternative search engines, as it has gathered most of them on one page. There is one search field and no less than 35 colorful search buttons, one for each search service.
In addition to the regular search engines (Google, Ask, Live, Yahoo!), Sputtr has also buttons for social web sited (digg, YouTube etc), shopping (amazon and ebay), dictionary search and excyclopedias (Wikipedia, IMDB) and more.
It is a simple, but good, idea, and well executed.
Sputtr is asking for suggestions. We propose that they include more of the alternative search services provided by the big ones. Now the most important Google search services are included, but only regular web search for Live, Yahoo! and Ask.
We’d would like to see Ask Blog Search, Yahoo Answers and Live News included.
Alternative search engines Gigablast and Exalead also deserve a chance.
By the way, you can use Pandia’s home page search field in a similar fashion. Enter your search query and select your search engine using the pull down menu.
If you want easy access to even more search tools, see our Pandia Powersearch page.
