AOL gets personal

(July 28 2005) America Online or AOL was originally a closed community for subscribers to a bulletin board system outside the Web. Today many of its services are available for everyone.

This also applies to My AOL, which lets you build your own home page with search forms, weather forecasts and more.

You may also include headlines from RSS feeds, AOL’s own as well as any other feed, Pandia’s included. AOL is using the Feedster RSS search engine to keep track of available RSS feeds.

My AOL will shortly include a RSS search engine and the ability to “mix” new feeds based on headlines from various sources.

It should be noted that Google also added the possibility of including RSS headlines in their personalized home page service this week.

AOL has also launched a new search engine for mobile/cellular phones. This service will reformat web pages to a code that is readable by mobile phones.
