PageBull — new visual metasearch engine
The Pagebull metasearch engine presents results as screenshots of the listed web pages.
There is a new metasearch engine in town, called Pagebull. Like all metasearch engines, it collects results from several regular search engines and presents them in one coordinated list of results.
What makes Pagebull stand apart, though, is that all results are presented as pictures of the search result pages. Yes, that’s right, this is not a question of adding small thumbnails to regular search results (that has been done before). Pagebull abandons text alltogether.
Pagebull shows the search results in a 3 by 4, 2 by 6 or 4 by 3 image grid, depending on your Internet browser window size. You can use a drop down menu to customize the image grid, if needed.
It is amazing to see how much information is contained in pictures like this. Although it may be hard to read the text present in the images, the lay out, the picture selected and the main headlines immediately give you an impression of what the page is about.
It should be noted that the images are generated on the fly. Pagebull even highlights the search terms in the screenshots. This is very impressive!
And if you really need to read what the page is about, a small info link brings up the relevant information. There is also a + sign that that will generate a larger image of the relevant page.
Pagebull needs a fast broadband Internet connection. Seriously! Pagebull recommends a speed of 1 Mbps or higher (DSL, cable or office network). JavaScript must be enabled. A mouse with a mousewheel and a monitor with 1280 pixels horizontal or more is highly recommended.
