Did you mean panda?

SEO Speedwagon has an interesting post called “A SERP on One’s own”, where he points out a change in the way Google handles spelling.

Google is, as you probably know, very helpful when it comes to misspellings.

A search for “search enginje marketing” will lead to a link to a search for the correct term: “Did you mean search engine marketing?”

Unfortunately this will also lead to Google trying to correct trade marks and site names — definitely not a big problem, but some has found this irritating.

There comes a point, however, when the name of a site has reached a certain maturity, and Google stops correcting the name.

SEO Speedwagon believes this tipping point likely comes as a result of a combination of the following

* Age of the subdomain that lists the query term
* Number of backlinks and the anchor text used
* Number of times a specific phrase is searched for, as measured by the engine
* Sheer number of times the phrase exists on the Web
* A comment from the CEO’s mother

In other words: fame!

We take this as a proof of Pandia’s new and higher status, as Google no longer confuses Pandia with cuddly pandas.
