TVEyes makes Internet TV searchable

New search engine indexes the sound track of TV programs.

Traditional search engines indexes and searches text files. The Podscope search engine indexes the audio files of podcasts to make the entire audio file searchable.

The technology behind Podscope, called SpokenWord, powers a new service called TVEyes, a search engine that creates indexes the words spoken in a video file, making Internet TV searchable.

Broadcast sites often offer search based on the descriptive text associated with each segment. Searching based on the text describing each file can mean that meaningful mentions of search terms can be missed altogether.

For lengthy interviews and features, this can mean that you have to go through long downloads and playing times, only to find out that the information you sought wasn’t there.

In the search engine results there are links to video snippets containing the keywords you have searched for. You can then choose to visit the news site to view or download the entire file.

So far you can search Internet TV from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Al Jazeera. Later this year the list will include France, Mexico, Guatemala, and South Africa .
