Customize Google with Mozbot
Last week, we reported about the Firefox extension Customize Google. The search service Mozbot offers another way to customize Google, which works on most browsers.
Mozbot is a French enterprise, which was previously called Reacteur.com. Initially, it was developed as a laboratory for ideas related to web searching. It was a place to test search functionalities and to gain a better understanding of how search engines work.
When the team had the opportunity to sign a contract with Google for search results sand for sponsored links, they decided to display these results whilst adding a few extra ideas, based on the functionalities they had tested earlier.
This new project had an international scope, so the search engine was renamed from the French “Reacteur” to “Mozbot”.
Among the features you find at Mozbot are:
- Icon for opening search results in new window
- Displaying thumbnail screenshots of pages listed in the results
- Personalized black listing systems
- Information on ownership of sites listed in the results
- Favicon displayed in the search results, where available
See the complete list of features and a comparison with Google’s features .
There is also a Firefox plug-in that lets you ad Mozbot to the list of search engines that can be searched cy using the search box in the top right hand corner of the Firefox browser window.
Web masters have the opportunity to include a Mozbot search box on their site.
