GrokkerESM, enterprise search management with visual search capabilities
GrokkerESM is a recently launched tool for enterprise search management that integrates content federation, text mining, and visual search capabilities. This new tool provides search solutions for research-intensive organizations like businesses, libraries and content providers.
The search results are topically organized, which is really helpful when navigating lists of hundreds of search results.
Live visual maps
By the click of a button, you can have the same results displayed as a live visual map that helps you see how the different groups of topics in your search results relate to each other.
If you click on any part of the map, Grokker zooms in to give you a detailed view of your selected category. Simultaneously, a list of search results in the same category is displayed to the right of the map.
If you are not shopping for an enterprise search management tool, you might still want to have a look at how the Grokker works. We really enjoyed taking it for a test drive! Do it yourself at grokker.com.
Curing information overload
The commercial version GrokkerESM gives organizations the ability to search across a broad selection of content sources and corporate portals. This way, a company can bring together disparate content silos such as subscription content, market news, and proprietary enterprise data into a single application.
A solution like this could facilitate access to a lot of different kinds of data and alleviate information overload.
What’s in a name?
In case you were wondering about the name Grokker and why it says Grok, not Search on the Grokker search button, the explanation is (as you might have guessed) to be found in the science fiction novel “Stranger in a Strange Landâ€? by Robert A. Heinlein. On Grokker’s About Us page, you can read the following:
While “Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein is not exactly required reading here at Grokker, we do take inspiration from the 1961 science-fiction classic. In the book, Grok is a Martian word meaning literally ‘to drink’ and metaphorically ‘to be one with.’ To grok something is to understand something so well that it is fully absorbed into oneself. It is to look at every problem, opportunity, action, and point of view from any and all perspectives. This is the spirit behind Grokker.
Here at Pandia HQ we have read and re-read “Stranger in a Strange land” and we just love this reference!
