Searching for search engine news
There are several sites and search engines out there that help you keep track of the search engine buzz.
Given that you are visiting Pandia it is a fair guess that you are interested in search engines, being that the gentle art of searching, search engine marketing or the search engine industry.
This probably also means that you are in need of keeping track of what takes place in the world of search engines. Now, the easy way out of this is to read Pandia regularly, and leave it at that. We will, after all, give you the essentials.
Nevertheless, there are a large number of search-oriented sites out there, and other media are also covering the world of Google, Yahoo and the lot. Wouldn’t it be great to have a tool that followed many of them and sorted out the main headlines in a easy to read way?
There are several such tools.
News search engines and feed generators
Some news search engines will categorize their entries according to topics. Topix.net has its own search engine category, as does the UK based News Now news service.
Moreover also publishes a search engine news news feed. Pandia has its own version of this one.
You can use the regular search engines. Search for instance Google News for the phrase search engine and bookmark the search result page. The next time you use the bookmark, you will get the latest relevant news headlines fetched by Google.
The problem with this approach is that you must be pretty certain that the words “search engine” have a prominent place at the relevant pages. Moreover, Google will give you any site that uses the word. Hence it will not give priority to the search engine expert sites.
Vertical search engines
If you know the sites you want to follow, you can make your own so-called vertical search engine, i.e. a search engine that searches search oriented sites and blogs only. We have actually done this for you.
At our Search Engine Detective page we have listed all the relevant search engine blogs, discussion forums and news sites we can think of, and we have included them in a Gigablast driven search engine search engine you can find on that page.
Gigablast lets you build a search engine of your own as well.
We have also tested two other free vertical search engine builders: Rolloy and swicki.

RSS feed generated guides
Nearly all search engine news sites and blogs now make use of RSS feeds, XML text files that list the main headlines and their description. This means that sites can harvest this information and present it in a coherent way.
A new site that does this in a very well laid out way is the French site Pipologie, now in beta.
Pipologie follows the RSS feed from a selection of search engine sites very similar to the ones we list at the Search Engine Detective. The front-page presents the latest headlines in a section at the right hand side of the screen.
By clicking on the relevant links in the left hand column you can generate new, but similar, pages that concentrate on a specific topic or a specific site. You can for instance get a page that lists recent news headlines from Pandia.
Given that Pipologie lists both English, French and Spanish language sites, you can also sort news messages according to language.
A simpler, but equally useful, headline gatherer is SEO Files. SEO files is, as the site puts it, s a semi-automated blog with aggregated news and comments. Posted using Technorati, Alexa and Google sources.
