Full Usenet archive now available

As reported in February Google has taken over the Deja.com Usenet archive, containing years of archived newsgroup messages. The Usenet is a special protocol for exchanging messages in a wide array of discussion forums.

Google has now made the complete Deja.com newsgroup archive available for searching, all the way back to March 29, 1995. The database contains more than 650 million messages.

You may now restrict searches to newsgroups, subject, author, message ID, language and time. Google has also added a newsgroup catalog, where you can explore the group hierarchy.

However, the old Deja.com service that made it possible to post messages on the Web is not yet operable. Google states that this function should be ready by mid-May.
