January 28 2001 Pandia redesigns its all-in-one Powersearch gatewayOn Sunday January 28 The Pandia Search Central launched a new version of its all-in-one Web search gateway: Pandia Powersearch. The new lay out is designed for better navigation and speedier loading. When Pandia was born in January 1999, it consisted of one page only: The Powersearch Page. Powersearch was designed to give Internet searchers direct access to all the best search tools, and included search forms for the most essential search engines and directories, as well as links to a vast array of search sites. Today Powersearch is but part of a large site devoted to Internet searching. It remains, however, one of the most popular sections of the site. On Sunday January 2001 Panida launched a completely new version of the Powersearch page. According to the Editors, Per and Susanne Koch, the goal has been to make the resource centre more accessible and easier to navigate. The link collection has been divided into several sections containing specific search resources:
In addition there are separate pages for news searching and for finding people and email-addresses. The Pandia Newsfinder was recently selected one of USA Today's best Internet resources of the year 2000. The number of search forms has been reduced, as most of the major search engines can be accessed from one search form near the top of the Powersearch page. The individual search engines are selected by using a special pull down menu. This search form may also be used to access Pandia's own metasearch engine and Web directory. By dividing the Powersearch page into sections, the upper part of the page will load faster, which means that users may start using the page before the last part has been rendered by the browser. "We are very careful not to include too many graphic elements," Per Koch says, "In this way the page will load fast even when people are using a standard modem connection." The Pandia Search Central has doubled its number of visitors since October last year, and continue to grow. The main aim of the site is to help visitors become more efficient Web searchers.
