New Alta Vista search engine, Part One

Alta Vista is redesigning its website. A preview can be accessed at this page.

Alta Vista has for some time used a directory combining data from the Open Directory Project and Looksmart. It now seems that Looksmart will be the only provider of content to the Alta Vista Directory. Alta Vista's own search engine, however, lives on.

We fail to see why a clone of the Looksmart directory should be any better than Alta Vistas unique Looksmart/ODP hybrid, but we suppose this is the money talking. Although there are still some Open Directory "Submit" boxes on the directory pages, the change has already taken place.

Looksmart is also providing data for the MSN Search, Excite and iWon search sites.
