Fast gets bigger - again.

January 2000

On January 17 the Norwegian company Fast Search & Transfer launched a new version of FAST Search engine (also called AllTheWeb - Fast has obviously not decided what they would like to call the kid, yet). The new FAST Search is built from an initial database of over 700 million visited Web documents, the most ever visited by any search engine according to Fast. With over 300 million Web documents in its new catalogue, FAST Search is the world's biggest search engine.

Fast claims that relevancy has increased dramatically, the catalogue is fresh with very few dead links, and porn and spam have been sharply reduced. Lycos will from now on include results from Fast on the Lycos Pro page for advanced searching. See also the article "Has Fast the largest search engine?" below.
