Sites on Searching the Net

binocularsThe Pandia Search Central is not the only site on the Web devoted to Internet searching. If you want to know more about searching the Net ,you should take a look at some of the sites mentioned below. If you are looking for a list of search engines and directories, go to the Pandia Powersearch page.

See also our complete list of search engine sites and weblogs.

Search Engine Watch

Search Engine Watch is a virtual bible of Internet searching, founded and edited by Danny Sullivan. It keeps you up to date with the latest developments within the world of search engines and directories and gives you detailed information on how search engines index websites, and on how the various search services are doing, ranging form the financial to the technical.

Furthermore, you will find search engine reviews, tutorials, articles about search engine technology, tips and hints for webmasters and more. The free Search Engine Report Newsletter is highly recommended.

ResearchBuzz

ResearchBuzz started as a companion to a Netscape book on Internet Searching, but has developed into a valuable source of information on searching the Net. It is not a huge site, but it has good articles and useful links to various search resources on the Web.

Its best feature, however, is the search news section, based on the famous ResearchBuzz newsletter. ResearchBuzz is edited by Pandia Award winner Tara Calishain.

Search Engine Showdown

Search Engine Showdown is the place to go when you are looking for search site statistics in general, including -- for instance -- the sizes of the various search engines. However, there is more to this site than numbers. Search Engine Showdown has grown to include detailed search engine reviews, an online newsletter, information on search strategies and more. It covers the traditional search engines and directories, as well as engines devoted to news and Usenet searching.

Search Engine Showdown is edited by Greg Notess, a writer and speaker who has been researching and covering Internet information resources since 1990.

Traffick - The Guide to Portals

Traffick (or portalhub.com as it is also known) has a lot of information on portals, including search sites like Yahoo and Excite that gives you a lot more than a simple search form. There is a news column, traffic reports (with company information, news etc.), links to search oriented sites, a couple of new discussion forums and more.

Traffick supplies information on searching the Net, as well as features that are not directly search related. Take a look!

Search Engine Guide

Search Engine Guide is well worth a visit. It contains a searchable directory of search engines, articles written by experts from the search engine industry, newsletters and news. The site's main focus is on optimizing Web pages for search engine positioning.

There is also a daily newsletter edited by Robert Clough, giving you the latest news headlines on searching the Net, including some (we admit it) you'll not find at Pandia.

About

About is what we can call an "alternative" Web directory for the net. As well as links to various online resources, it includes articles on searching the Net. This can be very useful indeed, as some of the links in the standard directories are more than cryptic.

All in all About has more than 100 articles on Net searching in their archives. Furthermore, the site has a rather active discussion forum, which also brings you news from the world of Internet searching.

Free Pint

Here is a British site devoted to searching the Net. It has some useful links to search resources.

The site's most valuable aspect, however, is the Free Pint Bar (shouldn't it have been a pub?), where readers can discuss matters of common interest, and the Free Pint Newsletter. Free Pint is first of all focusing on business related searching. Take a look!
