Net Search Discussion Forums

pencil Tutorials and guidebooks can bring you a long way, but sometimes you just have to ask somebody for help. Why not use the interactive nature of the Net to your advantage?

There are several forums or discussion groups out there that focus on the topic of Internet searching, and you can learn a lot from all of them. Note, however, that many of them focus on the topic of search engine promotion, with Web masters discussing how they can get a favourable listing of their website in the search engines and directories. Still, even ordinary searchers can learn a lot from following these discussions, as they tell you a lot about how search engines work.

WebmasterWorld.com

Pandia Award Winner 2001WebmasterWorld is an online discussion board, where webmasters discuss search engine technology, search engine optimization, including esoteric subjects like cloaking and spidering. There are several forums devoted to particular search engines, including Google, AltaVista and Inktomi and special sections focusing on European, Asian and pay-per-click search engines.

What makes WebmasterWorld different from some of the other forums on the Net, is the large number of optimization professionals taking part in the discussions. This means that it is a suitable source for up to date information on search engine development. That being said, this is probably not the place for the average Web searcher.

Free Search Engine Discussion Forums

This discussion board is hosted by "ihelpyou services", a Web promotion company. It is not as active as Search Engines Forum and Webmaster World, but there is some very useful information here. Moreover, newcomers to the search engine optimization scene will probably not feel as intimidated here as in some of the major forums.

SEO experts MakeMeTop and Jill Whalen takes part as moderator and advisor respectively. Forums with this kind of people can't be bad.

Search Engine Forums

The Web based Search Engine Forums is part of a Jim's World, a larger site devoted to website promotion. Hence this forum is primarily for Web masters trying to get top search engine positions for their websites. Nevertheless, we would recommend most "serious" searchers and researchers to make a visit and lurk around, as thy will find a lot of interesting information. This is a very active forum.

The main categories are sorted according to the various search engines and directories - hence there is a "Yahoo forum", an "Excite forum" and so on. It is easy to use and easy to navigate.

SearchGuild

SearchGuild is a new web based forum focusing mainly onn search engine optimization and marketing. Since it is quite new, it can not show the same kind of traffic as some of the other forums. There is quite a lot of interesting information here, though. This is the only SEO forum we know of that has its own Explorer toolbar!

Search Engine Watch Forums

Search Engine Watch Forums is hosted by Search Engine Watch, one of the most influential search engine site on the planet.

All in all this is a very active forum, with a lot of open minded and interesting discussion.

Digital Point

Digital Point Forums is run by a company selling business software packages. That hasn't stopped it from becoming one of the more popular search engine marketing forums on the Net.

It has a fairly standard structures with forum categories for all relevant search engines, marketing and business topics, web design and development discussions and search engine marketing tools.

Sphinn

In the summer of 2007 search engine guru Danny Sullivan launched a new sister site to Search Engine Land called Sphinn.
